The medical model is like a lens through which doctors  and physicians are viewing human  decay, suffering, dysfunction and, finally, death. Doctors understand everything, what is not under health standards or abnormal at the same way sore throat and diabetes, headache and depression. Depression is Like a Legendary Hydra

Some mental diseases, like a depression,  which could be compared with the Hydra. Hydra is a huge monster with 9 snake-like heads, each lethal poison and exhaling. Hercules had fight with Hydra. Making it out from its lair, hero started to cut Hydra’s heads one by one. But, unfortunately after he cut one of them, another two, more aggressive appeared on their place. At the same time legendary Hydra had one head, that was deathless.

Most of depressions are like the legendary Hydra, because you just start medical treatment and stop some of syndromes and just you stop other more painful syndromes came instead of those. But can depression be defeated? Traditional medical treatment can be temporarily suppressed only. Best decision to stop depression is to contaminate psycho – pharmacology with psychotherapy.

How to Treat Depression

  • Mood stabilizing pills
  • Antidepressants
  • Psychotherapy

But can be depression cured for 100%? It depends on many conditions. Psychotherapy can help in some forms of mild depression. Chronic depression will take time and attention to be defeated. But even after patient will feel him free from bad mood he have to visit psychologist or psychotherapist at least one time per month to prevent relapse.

Is Depression a disease? Perhaps, but not such disease, that can be treated at the same way as blood pressure. It is a bio – psycho- social syndrome, which needs more then just  pharmacological treatment.
